Author Guidelines

Author Guidelines

Articles submitted must be original and may not be published elsewhere in the same form. All submissions are first assessed by the editorial team, and should they proceed beyond this stage, they would be assessed in a blind peer-review process. Any major editorial issues will be discussed with the author. The editors may make minor grammatical, spelling, and punctuation changes without discussion with the author. Articles should be submitted as a Microsoft Word file. The author’s name and contact details must not appear on the manuscript. Articles should be accompanied by separate Word files including:

A cover sheet with the author’s name and a short biographical statement, including the author’s institutional affiliation and their contact details.

  • A 150-word abstract of the article.
  • An illustrations list (images’ captions).
  • A Word file containing all illustrations and their captions.

General guidelines:

  • All article submissions must be in Microsoft Word, 12-point Times New Roman font, double space, and employ italics for titles mentioned inside the text.
  • Any images and figures should be properly titled, dated, and acknowledged. Include full caption information, whenever available and appropriate, in this order: Figure number: Author, Formal Title (in italics), date, medium or support, dimensions. Name of collection, City of collection, and courtesy information. Captions or indications of where the images would be placed should be marked within the body of the piece.
  • The article should adhere to the Chicago Style bibliographic requirements. Further information is available from The Chicago Manual of Style.
  • Articles would be between 5000-7500 words in length. Book reviews should be 1000-1500 words including notes.
  • Formations encourages the use of images, but it is the responsibility of the author both to provide the high-resolution images (300 dpi) and to secure permission to reproduce them. For the initial submission, copyrights are not necessary, but these would need to be obtained upon acceptance. Since the publication is digital and open-access, we would also accept references to open-access images in the article in the form of hyperlinks.

For further detail on style specifications, which may be valuable as you prepare your submission, please consult our Complete Formating Guide.

Review process:

  • The editorial team would confirm the submission has been received for review.
  • After a time period of two months, the editorial team would inform the author whether the article has been accepted for peer-review or not.
  • The article would go through a double-blind peer-review for evaluation. Feedback from the peer review process will always be provided to the author.

Please ensure that your submission adheres to these guidelines, as articles that do not adhere will not be considered for publication.
